Truth.
Every shift I spend back at home bussing tables at the pizza place I work at reminds me how grateful I am that I had the chance to go to a good school, am going to be graduating in five months, and am going to get a job that’s better than bussing tables at a pizza place. Woof.

Yesterday, I did a half day at my student teaching placement for next semester! At first I was really grumpy about it…I’m on winter break, why do I have to wake up at six and do this? But after getting mind-numbingly lost in Hartford (four years and I still don’t know my way around…) I made it, and I’m REALLY glad I did. I got there in time for Morning Meeting, where...

EEEK
Applying for a real-life, fourth grade job today!! TERRIFYING. I realize it’s a huge long shot, and someone more experienced will probably get it over me, but I’m confident in the fact that I could have my own classroom, and it’s worth a shot, right?! Keep your fingers crossed for me!

Help!
So I spent tonight watching Bridesmaids (PHENOMENAL movie, third time I’ve watched it this week? Yikes.) and looking up information on teaching in NYC … then when I realized I have no money for NYC yet, teaching near my hometown in Connecticut. I found a job posting for a fourth grade teacher in an amazing school near me that starts Fall 2012- right after I graduate! I just finished...

Done. ):
Done with my fourth graders as of 12:30 today, and I’m still so sad. They threw me a surprise party at lunch and had cards and cake and presents…the cards are literally so precious I can’t handle it. They’re all so much sadder than I would have thought that I’m not coming back! They told me that they’re working on a petition to get me hired right out of...

Home stretch.
I got my placement for next semester’s teaching! I’m in a fifth grade classroom in Hartford again, but the school is a duel-language school that uses Spanish. I … do not speak Spanish. AKA: I need to learn some Spanish over winter break. No big deal. I’m hitting the home stretch with finals, and I only have three days left with my fourth graders. I have so much...

Success!
After a week of stressing over finals and how my teaching was going, finally some phenomenal news: The district testing scores for my narrative writing class came in, they’ve improved 40% as a group since last time we tested in October (: I had my final meeting with my supervisor and my cooperating teacher and I received an A for my teaching this semester! My coop told me that if there...

marhoffmer asked: Honestly I just try to remind myself why I am there, because while I am a student, I'm also responsible for my student's education. I try to bury all of it until the end of the day, and they I go for a run or take a nap to refresh myself. Almost done! Stay positive :)

Dear other student teachers,
how do you handle the stress of teaching during finals week? Today I went to teaching so exhausted & stressed out I was snappy and sarcasatic with my students, and I feel HORRIBLE. ): Too. Many. Projects.

Theme of today: Why?
So today was my FINAL practicum observation & evaluation. I was SO set- had my social studies lesson planned (an introduction to Native American history- a picture sort & vocab intro) and I felt confident and ready to go! Background Information: Every Friday morning, we have Community Meeting- the whole school had a meeting in the auditorium & parents are invited, and each week a...

It's only 7:30am, Monday morning...
And I am already super-stressed out about this week. So many things to do at the end of the semester, plus half of my student teaching winding down…so many things to do. So many things due. I honestly think when I clean my apartment I’ll feel better. Any other tips for relaxing a little?

learning & laughing: Scrutiny →
iamlittlei: I’ve been procrastinating my lesson planning very deliberately this weekend. Tomorrow I am being observed by the district science curriculum supervisor. Until now I have not been too nervous about this; she already likes me, she’s heard nothing but good things about my… Well, at least now I know someone feels the same exact way I do!

Sundays are so stressful.
I just hate getting out of the flow of things, really. I need to plan, organize, and generally get my life together every Sunday. All I really want to do is lay, watch football, eat, etc. But I need to map out social studies for the next couple of weeks, plan for my FINAL OBSERVATION on Tuesday, and things of that nature. Ahhh ):

Today's thoughts.
This has been such an easy week for me. I’ve only taught three lessons, because time has been SO consumed by district testing…basically practice CMT tests. The kids hate them, we hate them, and we haven’t had a real writing or reading workshop in days! ): I DID do parent-teacher conferences for the first time, though. Those were frightening. And because I teach writing and a...
