tales of a student teacher.

I'm a senior at the University of Hartford studying elementary education, currently doing my student teaching in a fifth grade classroom in Hartford. I'm starting to think about having my own classroom, and want to get as much inspiration from as many sources as possible.

'A great teacher can offer an escape from poverty to the child who dreams beyond his circumstance. Every person...can point to a teacher who changed the trajectory of their lives.' -Barack Obama
Re: fraction word problems? Don't know what you've used, but some constant staples are: Pieces of a pizza, portions of a pie/cake/lasagne, fractions of a jug of water/cola... As you can tell, food works well. ;) Also, fractions of a journey completed, splitting a bill at a restaurant (back to food lol), or even in this modern age, internet usage and phone bills (proportion of a download limit used, phone bill split between calls/texts etc.). Hope this helps (and wasn't too late)!

This is phenomenal! Seriously, thank you so much. My students actually looked at me yesterday and said, “Miss Stearns, do you try to be funny when you write these?” WELL NO. BUT THANKS.
