This is unreal. I honestly am not ready to leave. I love, love, LOVE this placement SO MUCH. I don’t want it to be over! It went so quickly. ):

I know for a fact that I have been more successful here than I was anywhere else. The team of teachers I was on was so great, and were all such good friends. My cooperating teacher and I are very similar & get along SO WELL. My students, obviously, are little angels and I love them so much.

This is so weird. WAHHH. I’m not ready!

I AM GOING ON MY FIRST INTERVIEW ON MONDAY AFTERNOON.

The head of HR for Hartford Public Schools e-mailed me and asked me for coffee. I have so many questions.

Does “getting coffee” count as an interview?
What kind of questions should I ask her?
I am coming straight from student teaching- aka I will definitely not be wearing heels/a suit. Is this going to ruin my shot?
What kind of questions might I expect from her?

As a new teacher going on my first interview, I really feel like you could all give me some really good advice. So please….do. I’m stressing out!

Tomorrow I’m getting observed by a school from New Haven during Morning Meeting.

Monday I’m getting observed by the head of my school’s Student Teaching Department AND my own supervisor.

Monday afternoon I have a job interview with the head of HR for Hartford Public Schools.

Saturday I am putting a bottle of red wine to my face.

I wish I was teaching civics and I would require at least the first Hunger Games books as a reference to an oppressive totalitarian regime. Otherwise it is pretty hard to find a way to include it in the social studies!

but it will never, ever stop blowing my mind how little credit teachers get. My friends are constantly saying, “Oh, you get to play with kids all day? ROUGH LIFE.”

I leave my apartment at 6:45 at the latest every morning and don’t get back until 4 at the earliest. As a student teacher, I don’t get paid for ANYTHING- no reimbursement for gas, no reimbursement for supplies, nothing. I pay to go to school. I work for ten hours, then I come home and plan for another two hours, minimum.

I wouldn’t trade anything at all, because I absolutely love what I do and I love my kids. Today’s just a “I want more credit for this” day. Can I get an amen?

Home in 24 hours.

I got a rejection letter from a teaching job in Hartford.
I was a substitute while my cooperating teacher is out for two days.
The “supervisor” they stuck in my classroom with me knows nothing, and talked my ear off about making billboards for a living when he was younger during my prep.
My student had a temper tantrum/cried/threw his chair/stormed out after school when he didn’t know how to do a non-fiction summary and refused my calm help.

Tomorrow:

I will be substituting again.
I am getting observed by my university supervisor.
I have to continue teaching converting customary measures, which my students hate.

Is it Thursday yet?

Subbing for my student teaching class for the next two days.

Stressing a little, but not a lot. I guess that’s a good sign. I also got three hours of sleep last night. I was at school at 6:45 this morning. I am so sleepy. Or delirious.

Plus side: I am COMPULSIVELY planned for tomorrow & Wednesday.

Negative side: I am getting observed on Wednesday while I’m subbing. Woof.

I just want it to be Thursday so I can drive home and snuggle there all weekend.

Spring Break is over. Sigh.

I’m really excited to go back tomorrow and see my kiddies, but I’m not ready to part with my week off. Being able to go to the gym, see my friends, and relax was too good.

I’m also stressed about this week. I planned everything for tomorrow and am taking over for about 90% of the day…then my cooperating teacher will be out Tuesday and Wednesday, meaning that I am basically subbing (there will be an intern in with me but…let’s be honest. I’ll be teaching.) Plus, Tuesday’s the science fair, so there’s all of that insanity.

On another note: I am getting so much better at planning. There’s a noticable difference in how much more organized and less stressed out I am. I’m so happy. Planning honestly used to give me anxiety.
